COMPARISON

A Content CMS Treats Products as Pages.

WordPress is the best content management system most companies will ever use, and that is precisely the problem: content is what it manages. A product with forty specifications, each stored as a value with its unit, is data, and plugins cannot turn a page into a product record.

WordPress

Products are posts with custom fields. Specifications are text. Filtering is a plugin reading that text. Every catalog capability is a separate plugin with its own release cadence and its own idea of your data model.

EETech Commerce

Each product spec is stored as a number with its unit, range and a named owner. Filters compare those numbers after converting them to standard units. Search, PIM, RFQ and content share one data model, so a corrected value propagates everywhere at once.

This is the pattern we see most: a brochure site with plugins bolted on to imitate a catalog.

To Be Fair to WordPress

What It Is Genuinely Better At

Editorial content, a blog, a marketing site, an enormous ecosystem, and a hiring pool where everybody has used it. If your site is mostly content with a modest product list attached, WordPress plus a catalog plugin is a rational answer and you should not replatform for the sake of it.

The deciding factor is how many specifications each product has. Once buyers need to compare on more than about fifteen parameters, the plugin approach stops being a shortcut and starts being the constraint, and the symptoms show up as search failures rather than as anything obviously wrong with the CMS.

The Specific Differences

What a technical buyer does

On WordPress

On EETech Commerce

Filters 1µF and finds 1000nF parts

Only with a hand-written synonym list, which does not scale to every value

Always, values normalised to SI base units at index time

Narrows on six attributes at once

Plugin-dependent; usually pre-built buckets

Any typed attribute, including ranges and tolerances

Lands from Google and keeps filtering

Filters typically lost on entry

Filter state preserved and shareable as an indexable URL

Requests twelve parts as one BOM

A contact form message

Line items with quantities and attributes into your CRM

Reads specs without running JavaScript

Theme-dependent, often client-rendered

Server-rendered typed structured data with units

Sees distributor stock on the page

Rarely attempted

Native, per-partner refresh, staleness shown

The Part Nobody Budgets For

The Maintenance Arithmetic

A catalog assembled from plugins needs each of them to keep working, together, through their own update cycles and yours. That is a standing cost in someone's week, and it is usually invisible in the business case because it is distributed across a marketing coordinator, a contractor and an IT manager's patch queue.

It also produces a specific organisational failure: marketing stops asking for things, because every request now carries a security review. That cost never appears in a spreadsheet and it is often the largest one.
