Built for retail checkout, not for spec search.

Comparison

Built for retail checkout, not for spec search.

Shopify is excellent, and its excellence is specific: it moves a shopper from a product image to a completed payment faster than almost anything else. An engineer selecting on capacitance, tolerance and package is not doing that job.

Shopify

A product model built around variants: size, colour, material. Search is text-first with an app ecosystem to extend it. Complex sellers typically license third-party search and a separate PIM, then own the integration between them.

EETech Commerce

Products are stored as engineering specs, each with its value and unit. Search, PIM, BOM and RFQ are native and share one data model, so there is no integration for you to own and no renewal to negotiate.

If you are already paying for third-party search and a standalone PIM, you have already answered this question.

To be fair to Shopify

Where it wins outright

Time to a working storefront, checkout conversion, payment and tax handling, the app ecosystem, and operational simplicity. If a substantial part of your business is transactional and your catalog is not attribute-dense, Shopify is very likely the right answer and we would tell you so.

The B2B capabilities have also improved materially: company accounts, price lists, payment terms. Those are real. They help with how you sell. They do not help an engineer pick the right part, and that is what decides whether an engineer finds yours.
